Privacy Policy

This policy covers toolzy.cloud and the Toolzy Chrome extension. Most of what toolzy does happens entirely in your browser and never reaches our servers — this page explains exactly what does, and why.

What toolzy is

toolzy.cloud is a collection of client-side utilities (PDF, image, developer, and text tools) that run entirely in your browser — nothing you process with them is uploaded anywhere. toolzy also offers optional features that do involve a server: an account system, a file hosting & expiration service, private video meetings, and a Chrome extension that adds screen recording and file management. This policy covers those optional, server-touching features.

Information we collect

Account information. If you register, we store your email address and a hashed (never plaintext) password. Logging in issues a session token (JWT) used to authenticate later requests.

Files and recordings you choose to upload.Any file you explicitly upload or share — through a tool's "Upload & Get Shareable Link" action, the Upload & Share tool, a meeting recording, or the Chrome extension — is sent directly from your browser to our object storage provider (DigitalOcean Spaces). Our own servers only ever see the file's name, size, and content type, not its contents. Guests can upload too; we don't require an account for this.

Everything else, by default, stays local. The 24 PDF/image/developer/text tools process your files entirely in your browser using IndexedDB (Dexie.js) for your local history — none of that is sent to us unless you explicitly choose to upload a result.

Meetings.Video/audio in toolzy Meetings is peer-to-peer or relayed through our self-hosted Jitsi server (meet.toolzy.cloud) — we don't record meetings server-side. If you record a call yourself, that recording is handled exactly like any other file you choose to upload (see above). A display name you enter as a guest is remembered in a cookie on your device, not on our servers.

The Toolzy Chrome extension

The extension uses the same account system as the website — logging in in the extension's popup sends your email and password to our API the same way the website does, and stores the resulting session token locally in the browser's extension storage (not synced anywhere by us).

Screen, window, and tab recordings you make with the extension are created and held entirely in your browser. They're only ever transmitted if you click "Upload to Toolzy" — clicking "Download" instead keeps the recording fully on your device. The extension's on-page overlay and recording controls don't read, log, or transmit anything about the pages you visit or use while recording — they exist to control the recording itself.

How we use it

Account information authenticates you and enforces your plan's storage limits. Uploaded files are stored so we can serve your shareable link and enforce expiration. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties beyond the infrastructure providers needed to run the service (DigitalOcean for storage, PayPal for Pro plan payments — PayPal handles your payment details directly, we never see your card number).

How long we keep it

Uploaded files expire automatically based on the uploader's tier at the time: 7 days for guests, 30 days for Free accounts, and Pro-tier files don't expire (until you delete them). You can delete any of your own files at any time from your account. Deleting your account removes your stored email/password; contact us (below) if you'd like files deleted sooner than their normal expiry.

Cookies & local storage

The website stores your session token and local tool history in your browser's localStorage/IndexedDB, and a display-name cookie for guest meeting participants. The Chrome extension stores its session token in the browser's extension storage. None of this is a third-party tracking or advertising cookie.

Children's privacy

toolzy is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date below and, for significant changes, note it on the site. Last updated: 2026-07-26.
